Covid 19: So many state governments can declare overnight curfews as they see fit; The Interior Ministry has issued a directive

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry today issued guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19 infection in the country, along with the new guidelines for COVID-19 for December. The directive will be implemented in all states and union territories of the country from December 1, 2020 and remain in force until December 21, 2020.

Under the new directive, the Union Home Ministry has given the state and union governments some special powers to prevent the spread of Covid-19. With this power, the state governments can put in place the necessary local restrictions by assessing the situation. In the event that night curfew is needed to prevent infection, state governments can impose night curfews in their respective states. However, without consulting with the central government, no local lockdown (state / district / sub-division / city level) can be installed outside the content zone. Notably, state governments in six different states of the country have now imposed night curfews in their respective states to prevent Covid-19 infections.

State and union territories will also make social distance rules mandatory in office. In cities where the weekly case has a positive rate of more than 10 percent, the states and union governments concerned may consider changing office hours and other appropriate measures to reduce the number of employees attending the office at the same time. There will be no restrictions on interstate or interstate transportation.
